Now think

July 28, 2013

My post yesterday was very short, by design. There were many reasons, and I could write a post about each one. I could talk about how less is more, how brevity is the soul of wit, and how writing is at its best when you say exactly as much as you need to say. Rather than any of those, here’s what I think is the most interesting:

If you want to make people think, don’t explain too much. Say just enough to stimulate their minds, and not a single word more.

True thought is ruined when you give the answer away. Don’t do that. Make them work for it. Those who won’t get it never were going to anyway, while those who do will remember it forever.

Now think.
