A smart bit of wisdom from a wise old lady in a very good show. Take it at face value and it will serve you well. Let’s take it a bit further, though.

Try replacing ‘money’ with ‘time’.

Money is effectively infinite. Sometimes it’s difficult, but you can always get more money, if you’re smart and clever and more than a little bit lucky. Time, though… It borders on cliche, but it’s an absolute fact – time is the one resource you’ll never get more of. Not much more, at least.

I think one of the greatest measures of a human is how he or she spends their time. By all means, use some of your time (and money) to rest, to have fun, and do the silly and wild things that only we humans can do. There’s no shame in that. But the rest of it…

Better yourself. Work towards something fantastic. Improve the world. Make something. You will be measured by how you spend your time, whether by your friends or family or society or your own conscience or your god. Someone will measure you, even if it’s only you. How will you come out in the final accounting?

Use your time wisely. Better yourself. Now.
